:: Description and Basic Information ::
Who doesn’t love Dumbo? that crazy, kooky elephant. Yes, the ride is based on the lovable Disney character and oddly enough it is extremely popular with the youngsters. Located in Fantasyland, Dumbo the Flying Elephant takes the premise of the standard flying airplanes found at any self-respecting carnival and adds a little of that old Disney magic. This particular magic, though, has lost its luster just a tad, and we advise skipping out on Mr. Floppy Ears on the first trip to Disney.

Dumbo is for young children, plain and simple. After a more than moderate wait on a line that offers no protection from the sun, your tot will finally board an elephant. Said elephant will then circle around a central pole, giving your kid the impression that he or she is actually riding on Dumbo’s back. To make things a little more interesting, the pachyderm pod is fully equipped with a little joystick that lets its occupant control any and all ascending and descending. If your kid is a daredevil, they can jerk vigorously on the stick and give themselves motion sickness. If slow and steady is more your child’s style, then they can just sit back, stay at one level, and enjoy the ride. Either way, the experience is one that should delight smaller children, but few others.

Please remember that the line for this two-minute ride is rarely a short one. Therefore, unless your child is a true, guts-and-glory Dumbophile, convince them that there’s more to do in other areas of the park. This is one of the older rides in the Magic Kingdom and lacks the modern perks that make some of the other attractions more appealing. In addition, Dumbo has been out of the public eye for years, so your children may not even recognize him among the likes of Mickey, Minnie, and their tribe.

If you simply must brave the line, do yourself a favor and go early in the morning, or wait for the scorching Florida sun to set. Nothing makes an hour-long line worse than adding a little sunstroke. Do yourself a favor and keep this ride low on the list.
